DNA Lectures
Below is a list of all DNA-related lectures that I offer. All of these are geared to be a one-hour lecture. A complete list of learning outcomes for each lecture are found by clicking on the hyper-linked title.
The following are definitions of the various levels.
Beginner – There is no assumption that participants are familiar with any set of records or have any genealogical experience in order to fully enjoy the lecture.
Intermediate – In order to get the most enjoyment from the lecture participants should have a basic knowledge of records such as the census, vital records, etc.
Advanced – In order to get the most enjoyment from the lecture participants should have a solid understanding of multiple record sets.
All Levels – Participants of all levels would be able to enjoy the lecture.

DNA/101: What You Need to Know Before You Test
Level: Beginner
Description: Still not sure about taking a DNA test? This lecture will teach you what DNA tests can and cannot tell you about yourself and your ancestors. We will look at the types of DNA test, to help you know which type of test is right for you. We’ll look at the most popular testing companies and what they offer, and we will discuss ethics in DNA testing.
DNA/201: I've Gotten My Results Back, Now What?
Level: Beginner- Intermediate
Description: So you've taken an autosomal DNA test, and all of the graphs, matches, and chromosome browsers have you confused? This lecture will look at the most popular DNA testing companies and break down their results to show you how to get the most of what you get. We will also talk about creating testing strategies so you know who to test next.
DNA/301: Using Third Party Tools to Maximize Research
Level: Intermediate
Description: You’ve been looking at your autosomal results for weeks now and have reached out to a few cousin matches but aren’t sure what to do next. This lecture will show you what third-party tools are available to help you take your DNA journey to the next level.
DNA/401: Using mtDNA, Y-DNA, and X-DNA to Solve Genealogy Puzzles
Level: Intermediate
Description: Ready to move beyond autosomal DNA and do some targeted single line testing? This lecture discusses the ins and outs of the two most popular single line tests as well as how to use X-DNA matches to their fullest capability to help you break through brick walls.
