Below is a list of all lectures that I offer on these topics. All are geared to be a one-hour lecture except where noted. A complete list of learning outcomes for each lecture are found by clicking on the title of the lecture.
The following are definitions of the various levels.
Beginner – There is no assumption that participants are familiar with any set of records or have any genealogical experience in order to fully enjoy the lecture.
Intermediate – In order to get the most enjoyment from the lecture participants should have a basic knowledge of records such as the census, vital records, etc.
Advanced – In order to get the most enjoyment from the lecture participants should have a solid understanding of multiple record sets.
All Levels – Participants of all levels would be able to enjoy the lecture.
Living on Cloud Nine: Genealogy Beyond the Binder
Level: Beginner
Description: We live in a fast-paced, digital, on-the-go world. Genealogy is no different. Imagine being able to bring all of your research files with you on every trip. Using cloud-based storage allows the genealogical researcher to access all of their files anywhere any time. This course will compare several different cloud-based storage servers as well as look at different ways to organized digital files in order to minimize space and find documents faster.
The Wolfram Cometh: The Computation Knowledge Engine and Your Research
Level: Beginner
Description: All of us have ancestors with common names. Just how many John Smiths were there in 1901? This course will show participants how to use the computation knowledge engine called Wolfram Alpha in the genealogical research. This course will use a genealogical inquiry posted in a Facebook group and show how using Wolfram Alpha can help in prioritizing genealogical inquiry.
Going Wayback: Using The Internet Archives in Your Research
Level: Beginner
Description: Genealogists spend a lot of time in archives, but have you been to the Internet Archive? Come find out how to use this invaluable tool that will change the way you do research online. This lecture will cover what the Internet Archive, or 'Wayback Machine' can do to help genealogists with their online research. The Internet Archive is a treasure trove of information. Participants will learn how to find old webpages that have changed or been taken down, search thousands of texts, videos, audio recordings, and more!
